Ha Giang with famous rocky mountain terrain

Ha Giang Province is a province in northeastern Vietnam. It is 320 km away from Hanoi & located in the far north of the country with contains Vietnam's northernmost point. It shares a 270 km long border with Yunnan province of southern China, thus is known as Vietnam's final frontier.

It is one of the poorest provinces of Vietnam as it has mountainous topography.

Like Sapa, the most renowned attraction of Ha Giang is the many grandiose mountains. Although mountains here are not as high as Sapa's mountains and seem not to be steep enough to challenge adventurous climbers, they stand out for extensive area of limestone with unique formation of peaky rocks. The most famous rocky area of Ha Giang is Dong Van Rock Plateau, which is recognized by UNESCO as one of 77 geological parks in the world. Lung Cu Hamlet lying inside Dong Van Rock Plateau is another indispensible destination as it marks the very northern tip of Vietnam by Lung Cu Flag Tower on Dragon Mountain. Not only that, Ha Giang is a venue of fanciful natural caves such as Phuong Thien Cave, Chui Cave, Fairy Cave and Swallow Cave. Ha Giang is also well-known for its magnificent forests in which there are more than 1,000 species of good woods, drug trees as well as animals like tigers, peacock or pangolin.

Ban Gioc waterfall, which is closed to Vietnam’s northern border with China.

About 365km from Hanoi in Cao Bang province (northeast of Vietnam), Ban Gioc is the most beautiful waterfall in Vietnam that is worth seeing once in a lifetime.

With around 30 meters high and 208 meters wide, Ban Gioc falls can be heard from afar as the water is hitting the cliffs. Opposite to the falls, the river is calm, peaceful, clear as a mirror and painted by rice paddy fields that is beyond imagination and when standing in front of, Ban Gioc Waterfall is one of Vietnam’s most impressive natural sights. The falls are 30 metres high and 300 metres across, making Ban Gioc the widest – but not the highest – waterfall in the country. The falls occur on the Quay Son River, a beautiful jade-blue body of water, flowing through a pastoral landscape of rice fields and bamboo groves, surrounded by limestone pinnacles. Look at the falls, it is like looking into a watercolor painting. The beauty is just unreal!

Ba Be National Park

For a sightseeing tour of the northeast region, a fantastic place to enjoy is Ba Be National Park in Ba Be District, Bac Kan Province. There is a huge amount to explore here, with a vast variety of flora and fauna, as well as interesting geology and landscapes to discover. 

One of the best ways to get a feel for the area on arrival is by boat on one of the three lakes - kayaks for the more adventurous or guided motor boat tours for those who want to relax a little. Ba Be National Park has featured in hundreds of newspapers, magazines, forums and blogs, but nothing can prepare you for experiencing its intoxicating landscapes and clear waters first hand. The lakes have a lot to offer, including waterfalls, rivers, valleys, lakes, and caves all set amidst picturesque landscapes.
